Your son/daughter should have already: Attended university Open Days to help decide the five universities they will apply to. Have a draft of a 4000 character personal statement and started to get adults to look at it - this could be parents or teachers. Narrowed down their subject choice – there are over 50,000 different courses so this can be very challenging! Created an account on the UCAS website and linked it to school by entering the ‘buzzword’: elthorne2016 To do between now and 9 th December: Complete the online application including five university choices and personal statement Pay the £23 application fee online We have been working on this since the summer term of year 12. We will continue to work on personal statement drafting every fortnight during the PSHCE session with tutors. ELTHORNE PARK SIXTH FORM “ACHIEVING EXCELLENCE IN A LEARNING COMMUNITY” APPLYING TO UNIVERSITY

WHAT ARE UNIVERSITIES LOOKING FOR?  Enthusiasm – Interest – the geeks  Passion  Ability  Potential ELTHORNE PARK SIXTH FORM “ACHIEVING EXCELLENCE IN A LEARNING COMMUNITY”

UNIVERSITY IS NOT THE ONLY ROUTE  Apprenticeships- the Apprenticeship working group will start with Ms Barker next half term. Must register on the Apprenticeship website.  Employment- working with Ms Barker.  See Connexions (Ms Barker) ELTHORNE PARK SIXTH FORM “ACHIEVING EXCELLENCE IN A LEARNING COMMUNITY” Still need a personal statement!

UCAS PREDICTIONS School references and predicted grades – Last week in Sept for early entrants or half term for the majority. These cannot be altered by staff, it is no use asking. It will usually not be greater than the AS grade attained.  Considers work rate, Year 12 exams and progress so far  Based on teachers’ professional opinion Students need to ask what their predicted grades are and apply accordingly. Waste of time if predictions are not good enough. ELTHORNE PARK SIXTH FORM “ACHIEVING EXCELLENCE IN A LEARNING COMMUNITY”
