The Human Footprint

Ecological Footprint by Region, 2001 Source: WWF Living Planet Report 2004

There are many drivers of change to lessen the footprint. ESD is one of the important ones. Technology Enforcement Policy Financial mechanisms ESD Legal Systems Sustainable Development

The Handprint is a measure of your ESD Action. ESD action that is directed to decrease the human footprint and make the world move sustainable.

ESD for Whom? Family/Households Institution Community City State Nation World Individual

What is ESD Action? Formal Education Capacity Building Creating Awareness Participation Critical Thinking Values Experiential Training

We launch the Handprint, as a tool to indicate to ourselves the ESD actions we take. It is a tool that measures action at the individual, community, national and global level.

The handprint analyses positive impact on the three aspects of sustainability: environment, society and economy. Seven questions cover various aspect, investing on amongst others ESD towards use of resources, social engagement and awareness of sustainable investments.

This Handprint is of a little girl, Srija, from a school in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh (AP), India, CEE AP has been using this as a symbol for positive action.
