ENGLISH CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES By: Mrs. Fadwa D.

Kinds Of Classroom Activities Activities involving solely watching and or listening to present a new information; Activities involving mental activity of a rote nature (mechanical operation); Activities involving physically and mentally active participation (applying the new information); Activities involving mental activity of a creative nature.

Purposes of activities A lesson may vary in its activities which may include this categorisation Focus on grammatical form (F) that indicates the exploration of the language. Focus on vocabulary (V) Focus on form with communicative practice (FCP) has form as its major target, but uses sentences and interaction to explain and practice form. Focus on form in a communicative context (FCC) it is rather interaction that is dominating the activity. The interaction, however, is not open but rather directed towards a specific grammatical phenomenon by the teacher. The students do not necessarily know that they are being taught grammar. Focus on meaning (M) gives the students opportunities for communication without having to concentrate on the correct forms. Focus on meaning has been divided into: A personal interaction is usually an open topic where teacher and students talk about the immediate environment, themselves, etc. also where students have opportunities to initiate the discourse; and An academic interaction is more directed by the teacher and deals with more difficult topics.
