Alice Ramsey leaves Boston June 1912.

Trouble ahead.

We’ll have to wait for the river to go down.

Crossing the railroad tressle.

Luckily no trains came and they could continue across the Rockies.

Arriving at San Francisco after crossing the bay, they drive off the ferry.

Alice Ramsey wanted to drive across the U. S. In 1912, she did that with her sister-in-laws and a friend. They faced animals in the roads, no roads, no bridges, and no maps to lead the way.

From June to August, they had traveled by Maxwell from Boston to San Francisco. When they arrived, they were greeted by cheering crowds. It had been accomplished...and by women.
