What must I do when an individual with a service animal comes to my business. Only service dogs are allowed into a business and you may require papers to prove that the dog is a service dog. You may also charge a maintenance or cleaning fee for any service dog that comes into you business. A service animal must be permitted to accompany the individual with a disability to ALL area’s where customers are normally permitted to go unless the animal displays a vicious behavior. A “No Pets” policy at an establishment will prevent you from having to allow any pet or service animal into your business.

If an animal meets the definition of “service animal” under the ADA, they are considered service animals regardless of whether they have been licensed or certified by a government agency. A charge can only be made if it is common for that establishment, such as a hotel, to charge for damaged done to the establishment by a pet or service animal. Please Try Again!
