Hyperstudio: A Beginner’s Tutorial By Judy Swaim

Hyperstudio b to make a stack. b to make cards. b to make borders. b to add pictures. b to add text. b to add buttons. b to add sound. b to add animation. Learn

Useful Tips b Tools in this tutorial is referring to this menu. b Clicking on the hand on tools puts your presentation in a Play mode. b Clicking on the arrow on tools puts your presentation in an Edit mode.

Useful Tips b A Stack is a group of cards, in other words, it is the program you are creating. b A Card is the individual screen you are creating. b Buttons are objects that allow you to move from one card to another, add sounds, add animation, etc.

Preview b In this tutorial, you will create a short math program. b The first card is a multiple choice question. b By clicking on the correct answer, you move to Card 5 that says great and plays an animation. b By clicking on an incorrect answer, you move to Cards 2, 3, & 4 which show the correct way to work the problem. Then it moves back to Card 1 to give you a chance to answer correctly.

Making a Stack. b Open Hyperstudio by clicking on progams and clicking on Hyperstudio. b Click New Stack. b Click File. b Click Save Stack b Type add.

Making a Stack b Click and drag tools to the left. b Click and drag colors to the right. Notice your stack is now named ADD.STK and you are on Card 1

Add a Background b Click on File. b Click on Import Background. b Click on Disk File. b Click OK. b Click on Music.

Add a Background b On tools, click on dotted rectangle. b Click and drag so the rectangle encloses all musical symbols, but not the border. b Hit the delete key on the keyboard.

Add a Background b On color menu, select pale yellow. b On tools, select the fill tool (the paint bucket). b Click on the screen to turn it pale yellow.

Add New Cards b On tools, click arrow. b Click Ready made cards - Same Background. b Repeat until you have cards 2, 3, 4, & 5.

Move to Another Card b Move back to Card 1 by clicking Move, then click First Card. b Or move back to Card 1 by pressing the Ctrl key on the keyboard. While holding the Ctrl key, also press the < key until you get to Card 1.

Add a Picture b Click File b Click Add Clipart, Disk File, OK. b Click Addy. b Click lasso button. b Draw a circle around the first dog. b Click OK

Moving a Picture b Move cursor over the dog until the cursor becomes a cross arrow. b Click and drag the dog to the left corner.

Moving a Picture b On tools, click the dotted rectangle. b Click Edit- Copy. b Click Edit-Paste. b Click and drag the dog. b Click Edit-Paste again. Drag the dog. b You now have 3 dogs.

Add Text b On tools, double click on the T. b Choose Times New Roman, Bold, 28, Red. b Move cursor under first dog and click. b Type 1+2 =__. b Mover cursor under numbers and click. b Double click on T. Change color to Green and size to 26. b Type Click the correct answer. b Change to Red and type 2, 3, 4.

b Click on the dotted rectangle. b Select the dogs. b Click Edit- Copy. b Click Move- Next Card. b You are now on Card 2. b Click Edit- Paste. b Click T. b Type 1 under first dog. Pasting to Another Card

b Copy and paste dogs and 1 from Card 2 to Card 3. b Type 2 under the second dog. b Copy and past dogs and numbers from Card 2 to Card 3. b Type 3 under the third dog. b Type Try Again.

Pasting to Another Card b Copy and paste dogs from Card 4 to Card 5. b Type = 3 b Type Great Job !!!!

Adding Card 6 b To add Card 6 with a plain white background, click Edit- New Card. b Click Move- Previous Card to go back to Card 5.

Adding a Button b Click Objects. b Click Add a Button. b Click top, left button. b Click Show Icon. b Choose hand pointing to the right. b Under Name, click red. b Under Background, click green. b Position your cursor in the rectangle beside Name. b Click and type Next. b Click OK

Adding a Button b Click and drag the Next button to the bottom, right corner. b Click outside the button or double click inside the button and a menu will appear. b Click the circle beside Next Card and another menu will appear where you can choose the type of transition effects you prefer. b Click Iris close, Medium, & OK.

Adding Sound with the Button b Click Play a sound. b On the menu that pops up, click BOING.WAV. b Click OK on Tape deck menu. b Click Done on Actions menu. b To try your new button, click on the hand on tools, then click on the button you made.

Adding Animation with an Invisible Button. b Click Objects - Add a button. b Click the dotted rectangle to make the button invisible. b Click OK. b Click outside the button. b Click Animation, Disk Library, addyrun, & OK. b Click and drag dog across screen. b Click any key on the keyboard when finished.

Adding Animation with an Invisible Button. b Under Frame options, check Show first frame. b Uncheck Erase when done. b Click OK. b Click Automatic timer. b Click Activate button as soon as card is shown. b Click OK b Click Done an Action menu.

Adding an Invisible Button for Incorrect Answer. b Click Move - First card. b Click Object - Add a button. b Position the dotted rectangle around the 2. b Click outside the rectangle. b Click Next card, Transistion-Fastest, Speed- Fast, OK. b Click Sound - Click. b Click OK and Done.

Copying a Button. b On tools, click on the arrow. b Click inside the button around the 2 until the rectangle is flashing. b Click Edit - Copy button b Click Edit - Paste button. b Place your cursor over the flashing button. b Click and drag it over the 4.

Making a Button for the Correct Answer b Click Object - Add a button, OK. b Click outside the button. b Check Another card. b Click on the right arrow until you get to Card 5, Click OK. b Click Play a sound. b Click Beam down, OK, and Done.

More Buttons b Click Move - Next card (Card 2). b Add a button. b Choose Next card - Fastest. b Click Automatic Timer - After 2 sec. b Copy this button. b Move to Card 3. b Paste button.

More Buttons b Click Move - Next card (Card 4). b Click Object - Add a button. b Click outside the button. b Click Another card. b Click left arrow until you see Card 1. Click OK. b Click Automatic timer - 3 sec. b Click OK and Done.

Trying Your Program. b Move to Card 1. b On tools, click the hand. b Click on an incorrect answer and on a correct answer. b Watch the effects.
