MATHEMATICS- Students will be learning about Number and Algebra -Whole numbers -Addition and subtraction -Multiplication and Division -Patterns and Algebra Measurement and Geometry -Volume -Mass -3D space iMaths on-line program will compliment student learning in these areas this term. HSIE/Science – Australian Democracy Built Environments Students will learn about: -Events and actions related to the British colonisation of Australia. -How people interact within built environments and the factors considered in their design and construction. PD/HEALTH/PE Sport, Fundamental movement skills and School Rules During these lessons the children will be focusing on athletics skills. As part of personal development, students will be participating in the Drug Education Program. Friday Sport 12:15- 2:15pm Students will engage in soccer and AFL PSSA. Netball clinics with Netball Australia. ENGLISH Reading Students will be studying a variety of texts with a focus on comprehension strategies. Writing- Poetry and Discussions. Spelling Students will participate in spelling activities that examine phonemes, prefixes and suffixes, spelling rules, and theme words. Grammar, Punctuation and vocabulary will be taught as part of the writing program Multimodal Meanings As part of the new National English curriculum, students learn how image and text work together to make meaning. Handwriting – Formal handwriting lessons weekly and text book focusing on NSW Foundation style handwriting. Speaking and Listening – Reciting poetry and debating. HOMEWORK Will reinforce concepts taught in the classroom. Every week students will complete -Spelling activities based on list words -iMaths (online maths program) -Homework booklet -Nightly reading (to be recorded in booklet) -Extension homework is available from class teachers. CREATIVE AND PRACTICAL ARTS Music: Children will participate in weekly music lessons with Mrs Caponas on Thursday’s where they will: -Focus on preparing class scenes for the school production. -Rehearse and play a variety of repertoire, as an ensemble for the school production. -Work co operatively as part of a performing ensemble, participating fully in the rehearsal process. -Develop the skills to perform confidently in public at a variety of school or community events Recorder Group: Rehearsal for FOIM at the Opera House Drama: Children will participate in weekly lessons with ATYP. Focusing on performance and preparation for the school production. Dance Group: Selected student’s will rehearse weekly Tuesday afternoon’s with Mrs. Austin. Visual Art: Will be incorporated throughout the curriculum with a focus on Art appreciation, sketching and drawing. COMPUTERS/ TECHNOLOGY Interactive classroom will be an important focus for learning this year and will occur as a companion to in- class literacy and mathematics activities.
