ON STUDENTS SELECTING LECTURERS  In some universities nowadays, students are given the freedom to choose their own lecturers for some courses. In this case, the students may not be allowed to select what courses they want to take, but they can reject some teachers as their lecturers.

 When the students decide what teachers they would like to have in their classrooms, they may consider a number of factors. Firstly, they would welcome teachers with a profound academic background. With these teachers, the students can obviously benefit from their lectures and lay a solid foundation for their future achievements. Secondly, they would expect teachers who can deliver. In other words, these teachers can guide the students to explore the scope of knowledge. Lastly, the students would opt for teachers who are caring and considerate. Indeed, these teachers would pay attention to the individual students and inspire them to progress on.

 Such practice will surely encourage teachers to work harder and focus on improving their delivery of lectures. However, it should be pointed out that this practice will inevitable turn into a selection of the most popular teacher on campus. By the way, the most popular teacher may not be the best teacher. In the end, many good teachers may be forced to leave their jobs, which will become a loss for the students.

 An Announcement for a Voluntary Program  We at the student Union have decided to start a voluntary program in the coming summer vocation. The program is scheduled to begin on July 15and end on August 15. We would like to welcome volunteers from our fellow students.  The program is designed to the school children in the poverty-stricken areas in Northwest China. We are scheduled to live in these areas for one month and help the children there with their schoolwork. In addition, we will donate to the children with books we have collected or bought.  The Student Union understands that the program will succeed without the eager participation of our fellow students. All sophomore and junior students in our university are qualified volunteers. For those who are interested and willing to contribute to the program, please contact us at
