Indoor Lighting By Morgan Boyd and Lauren Evans

How is Indoor Lighting affecting Global Warming? Indoor lighting is affecting Global warming. When incandescent bulbs are burned for a days time, then it burns a lot of coal, which releases a lot of CO2 into the atmosphere.

What is Solar lighting? Solar lighting is light that is generated from the sun. Many solar panels not only make the home look good, but save on the CO2 emissions from wasted energy and saves money on your home electricity bill. Solar panels attract light and aims it into your home, which warms it like a light bulb would.

Why is using non-energy efficient bulbs affecting Global Warming? When we use light bulbs that are not energy efficient, it wastes energy that could be used for other purposes. Wasted energy=wasted coal=more CO2 into atmosphere.

Why should people use CFL’s? There are many reasons to use CFL’s or other energy- efficient light bulbs. When you replace a bulb with a CFL, you can save an amount of CO2 from being put into the atmosphere.“By replacing a single incandescent bulb with a CFL you can keep a half-ton of CO2 out of the atmosphere over the life of the bulb. If everyone in the U.S. used energy-efficient lighting, we could retire 90 average size power plants. Saving electricity reduces CO2 emissions, sulfur oxide and high-level nuclear waste.” CFL’s also use 75% less electricity than other light bulbs, so that means 75% less CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.

What can people do to reduce the wasted energy caused by indoor lighting? Remove unnecessary lights Turn off lights Install high efficiency lighting equipment Turn down thermostats when you’re gone Put on a sweater instead of turning up the heat when it’s cold Turn on some fans instead of turning up the air conditioner when it’s hot Use energy-efficient light bulbs or CFL’s(Compact Fluorescent Bulbs)
