A GUIDE FOR D ESIGNING O NLINE C OURSES 3

ANALYZE Some questions to consider Who is the audience? (learners characteristics) Why do they need to learn? What is the concept map of the course? What are the delivery options? What constraints exist? What will the students do to determine competency? What is the timeline for project completion? What are the classroom/Web learning differences? What are the online pedagogical considerations? 4

A NALYZE Learning objectives Define learning objectives Behavior Criterion Condition Set up learning objectives: Bloom’s Taxonomy Cognitive (Knowledge) Psychomotor (Skills) Affective (Attitude) 5

ANALYSIS: 6

Determine the instructional sequence Identify learning objectives for each unit Select a solution for each sequence Instructional content Instructional strategies Learning activities Assessment Transfer the instructional sequences, learning objectives, and solution into storyboards Constant communication and feedback b/t ID & SME 7 DESIGN

D EVELOP Creation of a prototype Author and produce the materials Develop instructional/learning activities Construct learning assessment Address technologies needed Create all multimedia elements Build up the user interface Deliver of the first draft to SME 8

I MPLEMENT Pilot testing course components (ID Rubric) Assessment of learning objectives Instructional appropriation Learner engagement and comprehension Time to complete each module Clear/easy navigation Self-assessment, peer assessment 9

I MPLEMENT ( CONT.) Training needed for facilitators to use instructional technology/tools? Additional learning resources: prepared students to use learning tools? Course Timetable and rollout schedule A final product is developed 10

EVALUATION Evaluation during the development cycle Conducted at each phase of the ADDIE model Identify mid-project adjustments and corrections Fine-tune the implementation of the product 11

E VALUATION ( CONT.) Evaluation after the project launch (ongoing) Collecting data following implementation of the project Determine its effectiveness and satisfies the instructional objectives Use student feedback and results to reorganize or redesign the course for future delivery 12

Thank you! 13
