BELL WORK 11/24 ON YOUR NOTEBOOK PAPER FROM YESTERDAY, EXPLAIN IN COMPLETE SENTENCES: WHICH HUMAN BODY SYSTEM DO YOU BELIEVE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT? WHY? WHICH IS THE LEAST IMPORTANT? WHY?

OBJECTIVES SPI Can I summarize how the different levels of organization are integrated within living systems? Can I explain the basic functions of a major organ system? How do different organ systems enable a complex multicellular organism to survive?

AGENDA Bell Work Objectives HBS Review Magic School Bus Story Expectations (Review) Magic School Bus HBS Story Work Time Exit Ticket & Reflection Objective: Can I explain the basic functions of a major organ system?

Match the following organ systems to their primary function: _____ 1. Integumentary System A. removes waste from the body _____ 2. Skeletal SystemB. controls movement in the body _____ 3. Muscular System C. sends messages to and from the brain _____ 4. Respiratory SystemD. manages the production of new organisms _____ 5. Nervous System E. protects the body from bacteria and diseases _____ 6. Cardiovascular SystemF. breaks down food to move it through the body _____ 7. Reproductive System G. takes in oxygen and removes carbon dioxide _____ 8. Digestive SystemH. provides the body with structure and support _____ 9. Excretory System I. pumps blood and nutrients through the body REVIEW Objective: Can I explain the basic functions of a major organ system?

REVIEW 1. An organ system circulates blood throughout the body and picks up oxygen-rich blood from the lungs. This organ system is most likely the _______________________. 2. What is responsible for transporting blood from the heart to the rest of the body? 3. Which organ system contains cells that fight diseases that enter your bloodstream A. respiratory B. muscular C. cardiovascular D. nervous 4. Which organ system is represented by the diagram? 5. In which order does air pass in the respiratory system? A. mouth, trachea, bronchi, lungs B. mouth, bronchi, trachea, lungs C. mouth, trachea, lungs, bronchi D. nose, bronchi, trachea, lungs Objective: Can I explain the basic functions of a major organ system?

“MAGIC SCHOOL BUS” STORYLINE EXPECTATIONS: REMINDER!  You will need an introduction, conclusion, and transitions.  You will write at least one paragraph per human body system. A complete story (to get a 100) will include 11 human body systems with three organs each.  You need enough characters in your story to allow for substantial dialogue.  You may create your own characters and plot line or copy that of the actual Magic School Bus show.  You may choose whether you write from first- or third-person perspective.  You must describe what you would see “inside” each body system. Objective: Can I explain the basic functions of a major organ system?

BODY SYSTEM PARAGRAPHS By next week, you should have paragraphs for the following human body systems: –Skeletal –Muscular –Integumentary –Cardiovascular –Respiratory –Nervous –Endocrine –Lymphatic –Immune Be sure to include AT LEAST 3 of the major organs from the Human Body Systems chart. Objective: Can I explain the basic functions of a major organ system?

EXIT TICKET & REFLECTION List three systems and explain how they work with another system. Rate yourself: 1: I don’t understand at all! 10: I could teach this. I totally get it! What is one “next step” you will take in developing your Magic School Bus HBS story? Objective: Can I explain the basic functions of a major organ system?

REFLECTION Fun fact of the day: It takes 43 muscles to frown, but only 17 to smile. Objective: Can I explain the basic functions of a major organ system?
