Land China is the third-largest country in land and has the largest population in the world.(1) China mostly contains with deserts, plains, mountains, highlands, and plateaus.(1) China’s land is fertile (like the North China Plains), which is very helpful for growing plants.(1) 10% of China’s land can be farmed.(1) Sometimes people use terraces to gain more land for the crops(people even use roads of railways to plant) (1) China is the oldest civilization in the world.(1) 1

Water China has two important rivers called the Huang He and the Yangzi River.(1) The Yangzi river flows 3,915 miles to the East China Sea and it is the only river in East Asia that is deep enough for the cargo ships to sail on.(1) In the Huang He river 400 million people live there. It is between the North China Plains, the fertile region of China.(1) The north part of China doesn’t have a lot of water. That causes many people are suffocating and dieing. The amount of the water is decreasing, and the people in China are also dieing of so many people needing water because of their enormous population. (4) 2

Climate China’s climate regions contain with tropical wet, semiarid, arid, humid subtropical, humid continental, subarctic, and highlands.(1) The eastern part of China has a humid subtropical climate which refers to hot summers and cool winters with plenty of rain.To the north part of China, it has warm summers and cold winters.The Plateau of Tibet’s climate region is the highlands which is in an area that blows over it most frequently. (1) In China sometimes dust storms occur for days.(1) The Huang He river is an example for the climate affects. This river is called the Huang He river because the loess is blown by the desert winds. Then it deposits to the east to the North China Plains.(1) 3

Vegetation China’s vegetation regions include tropical rain forest, deciduous forest, mixed forest, coniferous forest, , tropical savanna, temperate grassland, desert scrub, desert, tundra, and highlands.(1) Such as the bamboo in Southern China, it grows very fast during the wet season and can survive even though it’s dry.(1) Shrubs and small flowers in deserts of China grow fast after the summer rains.(1) Most of the territory of China is tropical rain forest which is a group of tall trees that form a canopy.(1) 4

Natural Resources China is one of the world’s largest supplies of coal. China uses petroleum, coal, and hydroelectric for sources of energy, lead, tungsten, silver, phosphates, iron, tin, and copper to raw materials for manufactured goods.(1) Since, China has a great amount of people, they do not export and are trying their best to make the resources secretive.(1) However, China doesn’t have all the natural resources they need, so they need to import from other countries.(1) 5

Historic Traditions One of the most famous building is called the Great Wall of China.(1) Confucius was a teacher who taught that everyone has a obligation and responsibility. He helped China’s government and Chinese culture to be tranquil.(1) China’s history was divided into dynasties. One of the largest dynasty was the Han dynasty.(1) Chinese invented so many important things such as paper, gun powder, silk weaving, magnetic compass, printing press, clockwork, noodle, spinning wheel, and the water wheel. They also found out some brilliant notions in algebra and medicine. (1&5) 6

People In China there are almost 1.5 billion people . One-sixth of the people are Chinese.(1) A long time ago since China had a immense amount of people, the Communists made a law to have only one child per family to slow down China’s population growth.(1) Chinese people speak Chinese language which is use by 50.000 characters.(2) Chinese people wear a cloth called Mao suit. The Mao suit is by Mao Zedong. The suit is a jacket or pants that are wore.(2) In China there are 56 national groups. They are trying to unite people together even though they speak different languages,have different customs, and cultures.(2) 7

Cultures China studied the people’s fortunes. In there, there is an ancient horoscope that predicts what is your stars and planets or even a certain year that has a characteristic. China’s traditional arts were drawing on porcelain an then to be fired and glaze to make it shiny and finally again fire it. One of China’s famous games are called the Chinese checkers which is played by all of the world. Traditional festivals in China were celebrating the moon. They made moon cookies and had a celebration by giving the cookies by giving to relatives, friends, each other. 8

Transformation In 1980, people in China rode bicycles and buses and had only 100,000 cars. In 2000, there are 11 million cars, buses, and trucks.(1) Taiwan was a country where Nationalists went after they were defeated by the Communists. Now it is one of the countries in the world that sells things.(1) Mao Zedong treated the human rights badly. Now after Mao Zedong died, They privately could own their properties.(1) 9
