JOHN DALTON

 In 1803  Eagles field, Cumberland, England in Kendal of a Quaker school. YEAR AND PLACE OF DISCOVERY

 He carried out many chemical reactions and lead to a book being published called A New System of Chemical Philosophy.  Dalton found that 12 grams of carbon could react with 16 grams of oxygen to form a compound that we call carbon monoxide.  On October 21, 1803 he gave this society the first announcement of his famous atomic theory.  All matter is composed of very small particles called atoms.  In chemical reactions, atoms combine with each other in simple, whole-number ratios to form combined atoms. IMPORTANCE OF THE DISCOVERY

ATOMIC MODEL proton Neutron

 He researched color blindness.  Most of his life he had very little money.  John Dalton was the youngest of the three surviving children of a Quaker handloom weaver.  In 1810 he refused an invitation to the Royal Society, but then in 1822 he was elected without his knowledge. 4 RANDOM FACTS
