The Beginning Abraham Lincoln elected president Southern states break away from Union Don’t want Lincoln as President Don’t want slavery messed with (Lincoln said he would contain slavery) Lincoln goes to war to keep Union together

A. What military traditions did each side have? North: Strong Naval traditions (3/4’s of Navy in North) South: Strong military leadership (7 of the 8 military colleges in the South)
