The Death Valley

 Death Valley National Park in United States, located in the eastern part of California, almost on the border with Nevada, and is the lowest place in the Western Hemisphere and the hottest place on Earth

Location  Death Valley National Park - the largest in the continental United States, covers the difficult space: more than 5000 square miles, including the valleys and mountains in the north. It is the largest park in the United States in the Mojave Desert The valley stretches about 140 miles from north to south and miles wide, on the west bordering chain Panamint, and in the east - the backbone Amargosa. Before her about three hours drive from Los Angeles.

Formation valley  Rock formations that can be seen today in Death Valley National Park, were created about 500 million years ago. According to archaeological excavations, 20 thousand years ago Death Valley was inhabited by man, watered and covered with vegetation.

Name  Death Valley its name received from migrants who crossed it in 1849, seeking the shortest route to reach the gold mines of California. Guide briefly reports that "some left in it forever." Fatalities were ill-prepared to cross the desert, not stocked with water and lost orientation. Before his death, one of them cursed this place, calling it the Valley of Death.

The climate  July 10, 1913 in the Valley of the temperature rose to 56 degrees Celsius (134 Fahrenheit). Hot and dry climate prevents the formation of mold. Landslides are the main process of erosion which result - bare ridges with almost no soil. Sand dunes in the park are scarce. Are the most famous place of quartz sand dunes near Stouvpayp Wells.

The moving stones  In the southern part of Death Valley is flat, smooth clay plain - the bottom of a dry lake Racetrack Playa - which is called the Valley of moving stones (Racetrack Playa). By the very phenomenon encountered in this area - "self- propelled" stones.

In the culture  Many scenes of the Martian landscape for the movie "Robinson Crusoe on Mars" were filmed also in Death Valley.  And there were a few retakes movie scenes Star Wars. Episode IV: A New Hope.  And many scenes of the movie "Three Godfather."

National park  In 1933, the "Valley of Death" was declared a national monument, and in 1994 she received a National Park and the area of the park has been expanded to include a further 500 hectares of land.

 the Death Valley. Among its many beauties, wonders and troubles (do not forget that this is one of the driest and hottest places on the planet) has several karst caves, united passes, which are called Devil's Hole.
