would rather and prefer to would rather 宁愿 …… 而不愿；与 其 …… ，倒不如 …… ，后常跟不带 to 的动词不定式。并与 than 连用。其否 定式为 would rather not do sth 。如： I would rather drink tea than coffee. 我宁愿喝茶而不愿喝咖啡。 I would rather not go. 我宁愿不去。

I would rather go today than tomorrow. 我宁愿今天去，而不愿明天去。 would rather 也可跟从句，且从句常用 一般过去时。如： I’d rather we had dinner now. 我倒愿意现在就吃饭。 I’d rather you knew that now, than afterwards. 我宁愿你现在就知道，而不是后来。

prefer to do 相当于 rather than do ，意为 “ 比较喜欢 …… 而不喜欢 ……” 。如： She preferred to stay at home rather than go out. 她宁愿呆在家里而不出去。 prefer … to … 意为 “ 喜欢 …… 甚于 …… ， 宁要 …… 而不要 ……” 。如： He prefers skiing to skating. 他喜欢滑雪，较不喜欢溜冰。
