Career Planning Research Activity 200 Points Due: 4/4/11 (Monday)

What is the difference between a job and a career?  A job is work that you do mainly to earn money.  A career is a commitment to work in a field that you find interesting and fulfilling.

Guidelines  Research a career that you are interested in pursuing.  You will type answers to the following questions: 1. What is the specific career? 2. What exactly do individuals within this career field do? (career description) 3. What type of education and training do individuals within this career field need?

Continued 4. How long does the schooling and/or training last? 5. What type of continued training is necessary in your chosen career field? 6. What are the typical costs associated with receiving the necessary education and training for this career field?

Continued 7. What is the salary range for this career? 8. What are the projected job prospects for individuals that want to pursue this career field in the next 8-10 years? 9. Why specifically are you interested in this career field? 10. Where did you get your answers to these questions?

Career Research Restrictions  Do not research any career that is illegal.  Also, do not research careers that deal with professional athletics or show business.  If you become a professional athlete or an A- list celebrity that will be great. For now, however, research a “just in case that doesn’t work out” career field.

 We will spend two class periods using the school’s computer labs (3/25 and 3/31).  You will be responsible for finishing any part of the assignment that you don’t finish during class time. Use your time in the computer lab wisely!
