Athenian Philosophers on politics Do on a separate, non-CN paper

What does Plato mean? "Until philosophers rule as kings or those who are now called kings and leading men genuinely and adequately philosophise, … cities will have no rest from evils,... nor, I think, will the human race.“ Rulers must be educated, wise, and ethical leaders, or their natural selfishness will cause the problems of any nation or society to continue. EC: Do you agree? (2)

What does Aristotle mean? “And the rule of the law, it is argued, is preferable that of any individual.” (2) The rules made by all of the people together (law) are better for everyone than the rules made by any one person imposed on everyone. Do you agree? Explain (2)

What does Aristotle mean? “Therefore, he who bids the law rule may be deemed to bid that God and Reason alone rule” …“the law is reason, unaffected by desire”(2) Following the law is to follow common experience and educated thinking; made in the interests of the majority of the people. EC Do you agree? Explain (2)

What does Aristotle mean? “…..but he who bids man rule adds an element of the beast; for desire is a wild beast, and passion perverts the minds of rulers.” (2) Leaders who follow their own prejudices and not the law in government will act selfishly and not in the interest of everyone else. EC: Do you agree? Explain (2)

What does Aristotle Mean? “…..for the administration of justice... is the principle of order in political society.” That a society ruled by law, not passion, will be stable (safe, prosperous, healthy) for the majority. EC: Do you agree? Explain (2)
