Prepositions (take notes)

Do you remember what a preposition does in a sentence Do you remember what a preposition does in a sentence? A preposition relates nouns and pronouns to other parts of a sentence.

Can you think of any prepositions Can you think of any prepositions? Write as many as you can in your notes NOW! Use the blue language book to check your answers. You will find prepositions on page 400.

Where will I find prepositions? We find prepositions inside PREPOSITIONAL PHRASES Prepositional phrases add nonessential information or “fluff” to a sentence. These include a preposition, the noun or pronoun, and any adjectives in between. Example: I ate a banana at the table

-the is an adjective describing table In the sentence “I ate a banana at the table” -At is the preposition -table is the noun being related to the sentence (this is called the “object of the preposition) -the is an adjective describing table -our prepositional phrase is “at the table” All prepositional phrases follow this pattern REGARDLESS of where they occur in a sentence.
