APPRENTICESHIP  APPRENTICESHIP- IS A TYPE OF PROGRAM IN WHICH A PERSON WORKS UNDER A PERSON WHO HAS MASTERY IN THAT AREA. THEY DO THIS TO LEARN SKILLS IN ORDER TO WORK IN THAT TRADE. IT IS ON THE JOB TRAINING, DOING HANDS ON WORK.  PEOPLE WORK APPRENTICES IN ORDER TO LEARN THE SKILLS OF A TRADE.  WHILE WORKING AN APPRENTICESHIP YOU ARE PAID WHILE YOU WORK.

ONLINE COURSES (DISTANT LEARNING) ADVANTAGES  YOU CAN WORK ON THE CLASSES AT YOUR OWN PACE.  IT IS EASIER TO HAVE A JOB.  IT ALLOWS YOU TO SPEND MORE TIME WITH YOUR FAMILY. DISADVANTAGES  IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS YOU CANNOT PHYSICALLY ASK A TEACHER FOR HELP.  CAN EASILY FALL BEHIND BECAUSE YOU ARE WORKING AT YOUR OWN PACE.  EASILY BECOME DISTRACTED BECAUSE YOU ARE ON THE INTERNET/COMPUTER. DEGREE TYPES  ASSOCIATE DEGREE- A DEGREE EARNED FROM COLLEGE USUALLY AFTER ONE-TWO YEARS OF BEING A FULL-TIME STUDENT.  CAREERS THAT YOU CAN GET WITH AN ASSOCIATES DEGREE  PARALEGAL  FASHION DESIGNER  LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE (REGISTERED NURSE IN SOME PLACES)  DENTAL ASSISTANT (DENTAL HYGENIST IN SOME STATES)  AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLER

FINANCIAL AID OPPORTUNITIES VOCAB  EDUCATION CAN BE EXPENSIVE, BUT THERE ARE MANY FINANCIAL AID OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE TO YOU.  SCHOLARSHIP- MONEY PROVIDED FOR YOUR EDUCATION THAT YOU DO NOT HAVE TO REPAY. Remember to check out fastweb.com  GRANT- MONEY PROVIDED BY THE GOVERNMENT, SCHOOLS, OR PRIVATE DONORS. You don’t have to pay back.  LOAN-AVAILABLE FROM THE GOVERNMENT AND FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS. LOANS DO HAVE INTEREST RATES, AND THIS MONEY MUST BE REPAID. MOST COLLEGE LOANS REQUIRE A COSIGNER

FINANCIAL AID OPPORTUNITIES VOCAB  COSIGNER- THE PERSON RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING BACK THE LOAN IF YOU FAIL TO MAKE THE PAYMENTS.  WORK-STUDY PROGRAM- PROVIDES MONEY TO PAY STUDENTS FOR QUALIFIED ON OR OFF CAMPUS JOBS. YOU MUST SHOW FINANCIAL NEED AND FIND AND APPLY FOR JOB OPENINGS APPROVED BY THE SCHOOL.  TUITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM- COMPANIES THAT WILL PAY FOR YOUR COLLEGE TUITION AS LONG AS YOU WORK FOR THEM WHILE YOU ARE IN COLLEGE. SOME COMPANIES, LIKE HOSPITALS, WILL ALSO DO THIS IF YOU SIGN TO WORK FOR THEM AFTER GRADUATING. UPS, Apple, Verizon, Comcast, and many others do this. How much they’ll contribute varies and there are stipulations.

FINANCIAL AID OPPORTUNITIES VOCAB  FAFSA (FREE APPLICATION FOR FINANCIAL STUDENT AID)- A FORM THAT YOU AND YOUR FAMILY MUST FILL OUT IN ORDER TO BE ELGIBLE FOR SCHOLARSHIPS,GRANTS,LOANS, OR WORK STUDY PROGRAMS  SAR- (STUDENT AID REPORT)- SHOWS THE RESULTS OF THE FAFSA PROCESS.  EFC (EXPECTED FAMILY CONTRIBUTION)- THE AMOUNT OF MONEY YOU AND YOUR FAMILY SHOULD CONTRIBUTE TO YOUR EDUCATION OR TRAINING AND IS SHOWN ON THE SAR.
