Observations Observations are made when we use our senses to gather information about the world around us. There are two types of observations.
Qualitative Qualitative observation (quality): A description usually based on our senses. Ex- Color, shape, feel, taste, sound. Examples: The dog is wearing a blue sweater. The dog is wearing a blue sweater. The dog has a wet nose. The dog has a wet nose. The dog’s fur is shiny. The dog’s fur is shiny.
Quantitative Quantitative observation (quantity) : A quantity based on exact measurement. Inferences Inference: A logical interpretation of an event that is based on observations and prior knowledge. Examples: The dog is warm. The dog is warm. The dog lives indoors. The dog lives indoors. The dog likes to sleep The dog likes to sleep with blankets.
