CUSTOM INTELLIGENCE SERVICES
Presentation transcript:

Eco Fashion Sustainable Systems Clarissa De V. Matos 10/2/15

"It bothers me that the intelligence of animals is measured by how willing they are to obey the commands of a human."

The world's fur trade is largely sourced from animals such as minks and foxes

How are animals affected by fashion? Every year, millions of animals are killed for the fashion industry. Fur is mostly sourced from fur farms, where animals are born & raised in the confines of small cages: Anally electrocuted Gassings Beatings Sometimes left alive for fur. Whether clothes come from Chinese fur farms, Indian slaughterhouses, or the Australian outback, an immeasurable amount of suffering goes into every fur-trimmed jacket, leather belt, and wool sweater.

80 % of global fur is now produced in China China has no animal welfare legislation and protection laws. Last year 10,000 dogs were slaughtered at YULIN Dog Eating Festival

5 ways Animals are Exploited: Wool Feathers Fur Leather Cosmetics

High Fashion or High Cruelty? High fashion labels such as Fendi, Marc Jacobs, Mulberry & Gucci are putting fur at the forefront of what is considered fashionable, the global sale of fur has went up by 70 % to around $15 billion in the past decade.

Eco- friendly Materials Raw fibers Cellulose fibers: Jute, Flax, Hemp, Ramie, Abaca, Bamboo, Soy, Corn, Pineapple, Beech wood Recycled fabrics

Solutions I want to design a collection of garments that use sustainable materials and also bring awareness to the daily suffering animals go through because of our fashion industry. This combines the concept of sustainable eating and wearing. Veganism- I desire to make YouTube videos that actively demonstrate how to prepare and cook vegan meals

Designer As an aspiring fashion designer and artist, I am driven to synergize both my artwork and fashion design onto fabric to create my own clothing line. My goal as a fashion designer, and visual artist is to explore the undiscovered and inspire people with spiritually- enlightening and thought-provoking work. I believe this project allows me to do so in an active way.
