Music and Media

 1. Music recording systems  2. Music and media (Films, advertisements, etc.)

 We can divide these systems in 3 groups… ◦ Acoustic Era (from1875 until 1925) ◦ Electrical Era (from 1925 until 1975) ◦ Digital Era (from 1975 until nowadays)

 PHONOGRAPH ◦ It was the first recording system. Invented by Thomas Alva Edison ◦ Here you can see how it works… 

 GRAMOPHONE ◦ It was the evolution of the phonograph ◦ It uses Vinyl disk to record the music through a mechanical process. ◦ Surprisingly, it doesn´t need any electricity to play the disk as you will see in this video…!!  ure=related ure=related In the Voyager spacecraft there is instructions about how to use it…

The Voyager In the Voyager spacecraft there are instructions about how to use it… spacecraft/sounds.html

 MAGNETIC TAPE ◦ This system is traditionally known by Tape recorder or Cassette ◦ It recorded using a couple of magnets which create a magnetic field around a tape ◦ This system adds a lof of high frecuency noise to the sound

 MAGNETIC TAPE

 Compact Disc (CD) ◦ It appeared in 80´s decade. The player uses laser beam when is reading the disc ◦ The sound quality is better and the storage space bigger

 MP3 ◦ It is like a small computer which can read mp3 files ◦ MP3 file is a compressed file which has been filtered deleting so many background sounds in order to reduce the file size… ◦ It reduces as well the sound quality…
