Tiered Instruction Professional Learning January 4, 2016 Lamar County Schools

Tiered Instruction /Pyramid of Intervention Why are we here? –For many years, the district has attempted to implement the Response To Intervention /Multiple Tiers of Student Support process. While we have pockets of implementation, in March of 2015, our district had to write a Corrective Action Plan that required district- level SST procedures.

Tiered Instruction /Pyramid of Intervention Why are we here? –The State approved our plan in July. Since then, we have been working on the timelines given to us. –We have until April of 2016 to get our SST files compliant.

Tiered Instruction /Pyramid of Intervention Why are we here? –As a result of the SST portion of the Corrective Action Plan, we have realized that we need a district understanding of Tiered Instruction /Pyramid of Intervention model. The researched- based model includes three tiers (GA includes Tier 4).

Tiered Instruction /Pyramid of Intervention Why are we here? –Today we are talking about Tiers 1-3 of the Pyramid of Intervention.

Tiered Instruction /Pyramid of Intervention –Fidelity What is Tiered Instruction? –Tier 1 (Core Instruction) is the most important part of the day. This instructional time must be protected.

Tiered Instruction /Pyramid of Intervention –Fidelity What is Tiered Instruction? –At Tier 1, ALL students in grades K-12 must receive the Core Instruction (Georgia Standards of Excellence).

Tiered Instruction /Pyramid of Intervention –Fidelity What is Tiered Instruction? –At Tier 1, schools plan and implement research-based classroom instructional strategies using a universal screener. This includes Formative Instructional Practices, Differentiated Instruction, and curriculum maps.

Tiered Instruction /Pyramid of Intervention –Fidelity What is Tiered Instruction? –In Tier 1, the needs of ALL learners drive the daily instruction.

Tiered Instruction /Pyramid of Intervention – Fidelity What is Tiered Instruction? –Tier 2 instruction is for school-based interventions planned as a grade level /content area for those students not meeting the district’s cut score on the universal screener.

Tiered Instruction /Pyramid of Intervention – Fidelity What is Tiered Instruction? –Tier 2 school-based interventions are considered “standard protocols” that are pre-planned, developed, and supported at the school level.

Tiered Instruction /Pyramid of Intervention – Fidelity What is Tiered Instruction? –Tier 2 must be implemented beyond the Core Instructional time.

Tiered Instruction /Pyramid of Intervention – Fidelity What is Tiered Instruction? –Tier 3 interventions are for individual students not responding to Tier 2 interventions. –The Problem-solving approach is the process in Tier 3.

Tiered Instruction /Pyramid of Intervention – Fidelity What is Tiered Instruction? –Tier 3 begins the Student Support Team process. Please note: This is not a quick fix to a special education referral. –We have planned a mock SST meeting for you today. Before we begin I want to share where you can find resources to help you. Tiered Instruction /Pyramid of Intervention –Fidelity What is next? –Schools deciding upon Tier 2 standard protocols. –We are beginning where we all are in this process so that we can be compliant by April but we want things a teacher- friendly as possible!!! –Mrs. Reeder and Mrs. Greenwood will be coming at the first of February and March to monitor the SST files.
