Golden Age of China Vocabulary 1.Tang Dynasty – a powerful ruling family that ruled China from 618 to 907, they built a vast empire that had a stable government, society & economy based on trade. Government corruption, drought & rebellions led to its collapse. 2.Song Dynasty – ruling family that reunited China from 960 to 1279 under the leadership of General Zhao Kuangyin. The dynasty was weakened by invaders & fell to the Mongols in Tributary states – independent state that must acknowledge the supremacy of another state & pay tribute (money) to its ruler. 4.Gentry – wealthy landowning class in China. 5.Revive – to bring something back after it has not been used or has not existed for a period of time. 6.Scholarship – the knowledge, work or methods, involved in serious studying.

Characteristics of a GOLDEN AGE Create a “rubric” for what you would find in every/any Golden Age of an empire. List any ideas, words, or phrases associated with an empire when they are experiencing a Golden Age (you may want to include the following: size of the empire, economy, government, and military)
