LOCAL Y025 Strategy and Goals for

Welcome to Y025! ◦ I would like to welcome you to the new Y025 executive. ◦ The objective of today, is for us to collaborate, strategize and come up with goals to complete over the next year. ◦ One of today's goals, is to give a quick over-view and education about what it is the Local, Component, Regional and National functions and roles are. ◦ Accessing resources, education, and websites.

About PSAC Elected Officers PSAC Structure PSAC North PSAC North About Us

YEU What do you do? ◦ What is the role of the YEU? ◦ What do we want/expect from the YEU? ◦ How do we utilize the resources YEU has available to us? ◦ How do we improve communications between YEU and Local Y025? -What is the role of the YEU Liaison? YEU Main Page YEU Executive

Whose who & what do we do? President: By-Law 5- Duties of Officers (Pg.7) -What is the role of the President? -What do you want/expect from your President? -What committees does the President attend? -How will these roles change with the President not in Whitehorse? -Ideas for improvement - Role of Accountability - Discussion ◦ Vice-President: ◦ By-Law 5- Duties of Officers (Pg. 7) -What is the role of the VP? -How will these roles change with the Pres. not in Whitehorse? -What do you want/expect from your VP? -Committees &VP -Ideas for improvement - Role of Accountability - Discussion

Whose who & what do we do? ◦ Secretary/Treasurer By-Law 5 (Pg. 7) - Duties of Officers ◦ What is the role of the Sec./Treasurer? It is a combined role. ◦ What do you want/expect from your Sec./Treasurer? ◦ Ideas for improvement (ie. online banking) ◦ Role of Accountability ◦ -Discussion ◦ Director of Dawson By-Law 5 (pg.7) Duties of Officers ◦ What is the role of the Director of Dawson? ◦ What do you want/expect from your Director? ◦ How can we improve communications due to distance? ◦ Director and Committees ◦ Ideas for improvement ◦ Role of Accountability ◦ -Discussion

Whose who & what do we do? ◦ Chief Shop Steward ◦ By-Law 5 (pg.7) Duties of Officers ◦ What is the role of the Chief Shop Steward? ◦ What do we want/expect from our Chief Shop Steward? ◦ How will this role change with the Pres. not in Whitehorse? ◦ Chief Shop Steward and Committees ◦ Ideas for improvement ◦ Role of Accountability ◦ Shop Stewards ◦ How do we get more shop stewards? ◦ How do we delegate representation where the president is not in Whitehorse? ◦ Ideas for improvement ◦ Role of Accountability

The "Distance" Challenge This is super exciting that it's the first time our Local has a President living and working in a community. What are the pros and cons? How are we going to keep our local strong with representation now that the president is in Dawson? How are we going to delegate the tasks? (ie. Union Board in Whitehorse). How will this change the roles slightly in dealing with this? What changes do we need to purpose for bylaws and finances? ◦ Ideas for improvement ◦ Discussions

Communications I would like to propose some changes and improvement to communications. By-Laws state we have to hold a certain amount of meetings, plus our AGM is to be held in April. How would we like to hold future meetings? Video conference would be preferably if in person cannot happen. (Teleconference, Skype, FaceTime) How often do we want these meetings? -discussion and brainstorming ◦ Proposed Ideas for Improvement: 1.Weekly/Biweekly executive conference calls for check-in. (Ie. calling just to do a check-in, update, follow-up). 2.Having meetings via (ie. decisions for finances) 3. union boards and updates to the members 4.Which should be used for local business : or my personal address

Technology Improvements Technology is all around us, and we need to adapt and embrace it. How do we do this? What do we want to get out of technology improvements? How do we want to achieve technology changes? How much financially are we willing to invest? Brainstorming and discusison ◦ Ideas for Improvement: Online Collective Agreement ◦ Creating an App. for members to download on their home screen of cellphone/Ipad. This App would have capability of searching keywords. Digitalize Union Boards (similar to dr. office waiting room tv's) Local TV advertising for events, major meetings Union Boards Utilizing YEU link for our local YEU Link Rx for a Fair Deal

Increasing Union Presence ◦ How do we increase our union presence? communication improvements to our members, communicating issues to YEU that are out of our scope so to speak. giving out more swag for members communicating to management the roles and sticking to our guns. Enforcing the Anti-Harassment Policy Hosting education sessions at lunch (brown bag meetings) about pensions, reading your collective agreement Having more events for our local ie. BBQ's, contests, newsletters, birthday parties, Christmas parties, coffee-house social.

Increasing Union Presence -Social event ideas: 1. BBQ with either component or other locals welcoming families to come. Tents or Kiosks set up around the site featuring education sessions for members to quickly go check out quickly. Have a bouncy house for kids or face painting, maybe tug of war for everyone to play, or having other games like the 3-legged race. -Bringing kitchen coffee dates back by getting to know our members again, the "old neighbour knowing neighbour" concept back. -Hosting a coffee house night. Where members that play musical instruments or are a part of a band etc. would be able to come play. -Christmas Parties and Suppers, do something that would be suitable for all ages. -Encouraging members to take as much education as they can get. Having more members attend YEU, PSAC, and CLC education will help with member mobilization, improved solidarity and demonstrate to management that we are strong!

Education ◦ Education is key to success. Having resources and tools at our fingertips will allow each other to be comfortable in our roles. ◦ What does an engaged member look like? ◦ How do we access education? ◦ PSAC North Education PSAC North Education Steward Training YEU Training YEU For the Members Canadian Labour Congress Education (CLC) I would like there to be a log kept keeping track of education. This would be easier when education is offered to know who needs what.

Accountability and Goals ◦ Setting goals for ourselves and our local will demonstrate accountability to each other, to our members and to our component. ◦ At our AGM in 2016, present goals on agenda. ◦ Use feedback and constructive criticism to create goals, improve ourselves and evaluate the way we do things. ◦ Set a goal date and time (eg. every 3 months) to ensure we are still on track. ◦ Look into surveys for members to give us their feedback.

*Discussion Time* Thanks for Coming!
