Peer Challenge Process Panel of external peers with relevant knowledge 4 headline questions – Clear approach to improving health and wellbeing – Effective leadership and governance system – Maximum use of skills, resources and commitment – Evaluating impact and accountability to public Interviews and Focus Groups Feedback triangulated

Feedback Examples of good practice Areas for consideration 3 key themes – Strategic Leadership – Communication and engagement – Governance and support

HWB should be providing a clear lead across the system and a clear vision of where the health & social care community needs to travel to Definitely not harnessing the full potential of the HWB Strategic Leadership Too many priorities Developed relationships and trust across different member groups Done a rattling good job in incredibly difficult circumstances An enabler not a system leader The Board has refined and shaped the strategy

Communication & Engagement The workshops are where some of the real benefits are A developing culture of inclusivity Local strategy consultation events were a great example of shared leadership Where are the providers in this? The HWB summaries help share the Boards business The champions are a champion idea Excellent Healthwatch leadership

Governance & Support “ All in boats going in the same direction, same river but would be better in the same boat ”

Summary Nationally, no Board has fully achieved potential.
