BUILDING FLOURISHING COMMUNITIES IN FRAGILE CONTEXTS The Cordaid approach The overriding challenge in fragile and post-conflict countries is in restoring trust and social cohesion, at community level and between communities and the state.

INTRODUCTION Cordaid is active on CMDRR since 2003, in 12 countries, 360 communities 2013: Report ’10 Years Cordaid Community Managed DRR. The Essence, Results and Way Forward’ Report : Partner survey 37 partners, 91 communities in 11 countries Member of larger alliance in DRR: PfR Providing technical assistance (training) CSO’s, GOV, Centers of Excellence on DRR. Cordaid is active on CMDRR since 2003, in 12 countries, 640 communities 2013: Report ’10 Years Cordaid Community Managed DRR. WHY DOES DRR MATTER?

WORLD DEVELOPMENT REPORT 2014 WDR 2014 focuses on managing risk for development: investing in preparedness turning risk into opportunity DRR especially community managed is of great added value to post 2015 resilience building

CMDRR APPROACH The six basics: 1. Training 2. Risk Map by community 3. Community organization 4. Action plans by the community 5. Implementation of action plans 6. Monitoring and evaluation
