Presentation transcript:

Greenvale Primary School Our initiation into the world of blogging.

 Keen to have a go after presentation at blogging conference.  Liked the creative idea to improve standards in reading and writing.  Apprehensive about how to begin.  Key staff happy to trial, before training all staff.  Exciting purpose for writing. Our initial thoughts…

 Explored J2Webby and Bloggy  Created class page.  Informed parents of plans for new blog and school expectations.  Showed children class page.  Shared rules/expectations of blog.  Lesson planned around a whole class text. Getting Started

A class blog is created…

 Keen to contribute- links to ICT  Enthusiastic to comment and ask questions.  Teacher/Pupil comments kept blog flowing.  Engaged reluctant writers.  Strengthened home/school links.  Open ended blogs allowed pupils to comment based on their interests.  Work load manageable. What went well?

 Y5 Used Bloggy as Webby too simplistic.  Initially making blog public led to SPAM.  Set up was time consuming.  Teacher led opening posts.  Login very long winded at start.  Allowing time for administration.  Public too wide- school too closed. Getting to grips

Ready, Set …Blog!

 Exploited cross curricular links.  Engaging  Appealed to reluctant writers.  Everyone’s post valued.  Created a buzz around reading.  Gave writing a purpose. Impact Enthused children with their Literacy topic ‘Cosmic’

Children’s Comments I like the blog because I get to comment on things, it’s a fun talking website! Writing on the blog Helps us to learn things quicker! I like it because you get to share your comments about what you are reading. I love reading other peoples comments about the books they are reading!

Engaging the Reluctant Reader… I love reading comments on the blog, you can talk about your class book and what you think about it!
