Quieting the Class 1.When I need your attention, I will say “clap once.” If you hear me, clap once and stop talking. 2.Next, I will say “clap twice.” When you hear me, clap twice and stop talking. 3.At this point, everyone is expected to be silently looking at me, waiting for directions.

Paper Headings Every paper should contain the following information in the upper right corner: Name (first, last) Date Period

When a Student is Absent A planner is kept in front of the classroom. This planner lists the agenda for each day. With the planner is a notebook with extra copies of all class handouts. When a student is absent… 1.Check the planner and record missed assignments 2.Retrieve any handouts from the notebook 3.If you have any questions, ask your group members. If they are unable to answer, ask a teacher. 4.Complete all missed assignments and update notebook by the next class period. * LATE WORK is turned into the “Late Work” folder for your class. DO NOT hand it to me! DO NOT put it in the folders on the desks!

Sharpening Your Pencil If you need to sharpen your pencil during a lesson… 1.Raise two fingers (peace sign) 2.You will either get permission to leave your desk, or I will bring you a pencil sharpener. 3.Quietly sharpen your pencil, without distracting others 4.Place the pencil sharpener at the corner of your desk (covering the colored dot) when you are finished *The pencil sharpener may be used anytime during labs.

Collecting Assignments 1.When I signal or instruct, verify that your paper has the proper heading in the upper right corner 2.Pass your paper to the person in the RED seat 3.This student will stack the papers neatly, and place them in the folder in front of their seat.

Together Time When we are taking notes or having a class discussion… Raise your hand to speak One speaker at a time Be facing and have your eyes on the speaker to show you are listening.

Group Work When you are working as a group at your table… You are responsible for your own work. Ask a group member for help if you have a question. You must help if you are asked. You may ask for help from the teacher when the group agrees on the same question.
