Renewable Energy : Renewable energy is generally defined as energy that comes from resources which are naturally replenished on a human timescale such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, waves and geothermal heat. Sub topic :- Tidal Energy Tidal power, also called tidal energy, is a form of hydropower that converts the energy of tides into useful forms of power - mainly electricity.

What is a Tide ? Tides are the rising and falling of Earth's ocean surface caused by the tidal forces of the Moon and the Sun acting on the oceans.

What is the Tidal force ? The tidal force is the vectorial difference between the gravitational force of the Earth and the gravitational force of the Moon.

About tidal power It is a form of hydropower that exploits the movement of water caused by tidal currents or the rise and fall in sea levels due to the tides. Although not yet widely used, tidal power has potential for future electricity generation and is more predictable than wind energy and solar power.

Tidal Barrage Tidal current turbines Are Typically dams, built across on estuary of bay Make use of the kinetic energy of moving water to power turbines in a similar way to wind turbines that use wind to power turbines

This scheme has one barrage and one water storage basin, one way system, the incoming tide is allowed to fill the basin through sluice ways during the tide and the impounded water is used to generate electricity by letting the water flow from basin to the sea through the turbines during single basin schemes is intermittent generation power. Single Basin Scheme:

In the double basin scheme, there are two basins on the landward side with the powerhouse located at the interconnecting waterway between the two basins Double Basin Scheme:

ADVANTAGES 1. It is a renewable source of energy. 2. Tidal energy is environment friendly energy and doesn't produce greenhouse gases. 3.Because 71% of Earth’s surface is covered by water, it is possible to generate this energy on a large scale. 4.Efficiency of tidal power is far greater as compared to coal, solar or wind energy. Its efficiency is around 80%. 1.Cost of construction of tidal power plant is high. 2.There are very few ideal locations for construction of plant and they too are localized to coastal regions only. 3. Intensity of sea waves is unpredictable and there can be damage to power generation units. 4. Influences aquatic life adversely and can disrupt migration of fish. DISADVANTAGE S

A tidal power scheme is a long-term source of electricity. A proposal for the Severn Barrage, if built, has been projected to save 18 million tonnes of coal per year of operation. This decreases the output of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. tidal power is one of the alternative source of energy that will need to be developed to satisfy the human demand for energy.

India scope towards tidal energy India is still not using the tidal energy. In Jan 2011, the state of Gujarat announced plans to install Asia’s first commercial-scale tidal current power plant; the state government approved the construction of a 50 MW project in the Gulf of Kutch

Tides play a very important role in the formation of global climate as well as the ecosystems for ocean habitants. At the same time, tides are a substantial potential source of clean renewable energy for future human generations. Depleting oil reserves, the emission of greenhouse gases by burning coal, oil and other fossil fuels, nuclear waste will inevitably force people to replace most of our traditional energy sources with renewable energy in the future. Tidal energy is one of the best candidates for this
