Learning Objectives To take part in a simple debate about electrical issues. To realise that people and other living things have needs, and that we have responsibilities to meet them. To know what improves and harms our local, natural and built environments, and about some of the ways people look after them. 2 Dorri Sharma, V – A

The sun warms us and gives us light during the day. In summer we use AC’s which need Electricity to run. 3 Dorri Sharma, V – A

At night, and during the colder months, we need light and warmth from electricity… 4 Dorri Sharma, V – A

…now we also need electricity for cooking. 5 Dorri Sharma, V – A

Clue 2 Clue 1 6 Dorri Sharma, V – A

The electricity which we use is mostly made by burning coal or gas in power stations. 7 Dorri Sharma, V – A

The trouble is, this makes lots of ‘greenhouse’ gases which scientists believe are warming up the Earth and the air around it. 8 Dorri Sharma, V – A

The ice in the arctic is melting, and the polar bears’ habitat is shrinking. 9 Dorri Sharma, V – A

In some hot countries, there is less rain, and rivers are drying up. 10 Dorri Sharma, V – A

In places the land is becoming so dry that the farmers can no longer grow crops. 11 Dorri Sharma, V – A

So what can YOU do to stop global warming? 12 Dorri Sharma, V – A

You can turn off the lights when you don’t need them! 13 Dorri Sharma, V – A

Suggest that the grown ups who do the shopping buy energy saving light bulbs. 14 Dorri Sharma, V – A

Turn down the heating/cooling equipments as of required and…... set the clock so that it is on for less time. 15 Dorri Sharma, V – A

Remind everyone to keep the doors and windows shut when the heating/cooling is on, to keep the warmth/cold in. 16 Dorri Sharma, V – A

Wear clothes according to weather. Find out if your home is insulated to keep the warmth/cold from escaping through there. 17 Dorri Sharma, V – A

Put the electric kettle on to fill it only with the amount of water that is needed. That way it will take less electricity to bring it to the boil. 18 Dorri Sharma, V – A

Cook the food to put lids on the saucepans to keep the heat in while the food is cooking? 19 Dorri Sharma, V – A
