NWEA Training By: Mark Hayes

How everything work together? Students take the NWEA assessment to get their RIT score. The RIT score determines what level the students are at. The RIT score help you use DesCartes to determine which skills to teach as a whole group or as a small group.

RIT Scores Using the RIT scores will let you know where your students are at academically. This will help you group your students for reinforcement or challenge. The RIT score will help you use DesCartes to teach the skills needed for improvement.

DesCartes DesCartes is used to help improve students’ academic ability in reading and math. DesCartes has different skills that a student should know at different RIT score levels

DesCartes continued…… To determine which skills to teach the students, you need to:  Look at their RIT score  Look at each strand for reading and math For example for math, Geometry.

How NWEA assess the students? NWEA adapts to the students’ ability level. Students may work below or above their grade level.

How to review your students’ data Log in under your school NWEA site Review the data from the time tested. Reports should look this:

Example Report Sheet

Assessment Look at your data report and the following: 5 highest students 5 lowest students

Report Sheet The report sheet includes the following:  RIT Score  Percentile each student fall under  The areas in Reading and Math they are low or high in.

Assessment  Look at your data from Reading and Math.  Identify two areas that students need to improve in.  Look at DesCartes to determine which skills need to taught in small group and in whole.
