10.6 – Solving Equations by Factoring Definitions of the Day (DODs) Zero Product Property.

Zero Product Property : For all real numbers, a and b, If (a)(b)=0 Then a = 0 OR b = 0. Example: (a)(b) By the Zero Product Rule:

Example Solve: (x+5)(x+6)=0 By the Zero Product Property: (x+5)= 0 OR (x+6)= 0

Steps to Solve Quadratic Equations by Factoring (using the Zero-Product Property) 1)Write the quadratic in standard form: 2)Factor (use the Factoring Flowchart!!) 3)Use Zero-Product Property to solve.
