Unit 3 The Map

The Questions  What is the goal of life?  What makes an atom happy?  What is the Octet Rule?  What makes Hydrogen through Boron Happy?

Goal of life…  What is the goal of life?  Octet Rule: Said that atoms can have no more than 8 valence electrons.  But, an atom can have less.  An atom is happy when it has a FULL valence energy level.

Goal of life…  What is the Bohr Model of Chlorine?  Draw it… 0 ) ) )  What would make Chlorine really happy?  Gaining 1 electron so it would look like: 0 ) ) )

Goal of life…  What is the Bohr Model of Sodium?  Draw it… 0 ) ) )  What would make Sodium really happy?  Losing 1 electron so it would look like: 0 ) ) )

Goal of life…  What is the Bohr Model of Sulfer?  Draw it… 0 ) ) )  What would make Sulfer really happy?  Gaining 2 electrons so it would look like: 0 ) ) )

Goal of life…  What is the Bohr Model of Calcium?  Draw it… 0 ) ) ) )  What would make Calcium really happy?  Losing 2 electrons so it would look like: 0 ) ) ) )

Goal of life…  What is the Bohr Model of Lithium?  Draw it… 0 ) ) ) )  What would make Berylium really happy?  Remember the goal in life is to have a FULL valence energy level.  What do Losing 1 electrons or gaining 7?  What do you think is easier? Losing 1 electrons or gaining 7??

Goal of life…  What is the Bohr Model of Berylium? 0 ) ) ) )  Losing 2 electrons is easier than gaining 6. 0 ) ) ) )

Goal of life…  What is the Bohr Model of Boron?  Draw it… 0 ) ) )  What would make Boron really happy?  Losing 3 electrons so it would look like: 0 ) ) )

Goal of life…  What is the Bohr Model of Carbon?  Draw it… 0 ) ) )  What would make Carbon really happy?  Losing 4 electrons or gaining 4? It is the same. It can go either way. 0 ) ) )

Goal of life…  What is the Bohr Model of Nitrogen?  Draw it… 0 ) ) )  What would make Nitrogen really happy?  Losing 5 or gaining 3 electrons? 0 ) ) )

The Answers  What is the goal of life?  To be happy.  What makes an atom happy?  A full Valence Energy Level.  What is the Octet Rule?  There can be no more than 8 valence electrons in an atom.  What makes Hydrogen through Boron Happy?  Having 2 valence electrons in the 1 st energy level.
