Who is Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.? Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is a Baptist minister and social activist who led the civil rights movement in the United States from the mid-1950s until his death.

His Early life: Dr. King was born on January 15, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia. He was the son of the Reverend Martin Luther King and Alberta Williams King. His father soon changed both their names to Martin Luther in honor of the German Protestant Leader Martin Luther. He had an older sister, Willie Christine King, and a younger brother, Alfred Daniel Williams King.

The early civil rights movement The early civil rights movement involved a struggle among the people. It consisted of the act that was associated with Rosa Parks and her going to jail, the march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama, and the church bombing in Birmingham, Alabama.

Dr. King’s contribution: Dr. King’s greatest contribution was trying to get both blacks and whites to come together and get along.
