Malden adopted CPA on Nov 3, 2015, by 60% of vote Malden CPA is 1% surcharge on local property taxes (with exemptions), and allows other funds to be added up total of 3% State provides matching funds (currently around 25%) that go into special fund (not the General Fund) Estimated $636,000 total funds annually available Funds may be used for capital improvements only (not for operating or maintenance) 4

How much will CPA cost taxpayer? 5 Malden CPA is 1 % surcharge on local property taxes (with exemptions), starting in FY 2017 (July 1, 2016) – Based on current tax rate, annual surcharge on residential property assessed at $375,000 is $25.69 if owner-occupied, $43.26 if not – To calculate, go to – Average business owner (property valuation $1,061,657) will pay approximately $237 annually Low-income homeowners and senior (60+) moderate- income homeowners are exempt; for example: – Family of 4 earning less than $78,800 is exempt – Senior (60+) family of 2 earning less than $78,800 is exempt
