The Armstrong Memorial: What type of memorial is this? Where is it located?

THE ARMSTRONG MEMORIAL The Armstrong Memorial is a commemorative plaque displayed on the wall inside Newcastle University’s Armstrong Building. The memorial was unveiled in 1923.

By the end of these lessons you will: Know how to go about researching the names on a war memorial. Be able to use a variety of sources to find information about one of the people named on the Armstrong Memorial. Have selected relevant information from your research to produce a profile of one of the people named on the Armstrong Memorial. LEARNING OUTCOMES:

The memorial contains 222 names, all students, ex-students or staff of Armstrong College (then part of the University of Durham) who lost their lives in the First World War, Task: Study the list of names. Write down anything you notice or any questions you have. THE NAMES ON THE MEMORIAL

Although we know very little about the creation of the Armstrong memorial we do know quite a bit about some of the 223 men named on the memorial. This is because students at Newcastle university have been researching the men named on this memorial and the information they have found has been used to create a digital memory book. However, some information is missing and we need your help to find it. Your task is to work in a small group to put together a profile of one of the people named on the Armstrong Memorial so that the missing pages of the Digital Memory Book can be completed.
