Control Room

Software Optica l Mark Recognition I recognize you from somewhere OMR

What is an OMR Software though? It is a software normally accompanied with a scanner, used to check surveys, tests or attendances.

But how does it do it? Simple, on the document there are predefined spaces Each space corresponding to a response. For Example… When we mark that space with a pen or pencil The software recognizes it as a chosen response.

The Questions Do you blah blah? Responses Yes No The Predefined spaces The Mark

OK, then why should we use it? Would you really prefer to check these surveys yourself? Or let this thing handle your work a lot faster? Awesome, hours of my work is saved!

Advantages A fast method of inputting large amounts of data- up to forms can be read per hour depending on the quality of the machine used. Only one computer is needed to collect and process the data. OMR is more accurate than the data keyed in by a person.

Disadvantages If the marks do not fill the space completely, or aren’t in a dark enough pencil, they may not be read correctly. Only suitable for recording 1 out of a selection of answers, not suitable for text input. The OMR reader needs the answers to be identical to one another.

But wait, where can I use it? It is generally usable in every situation where there are only limited possibilities. Like surveys and MCQ Test Papers. MY WORK! Finally all checked! Magnificent! HQ

MIC R Software Magnetic Ink Character Recognition

What’s the definition of MICR Software? It is a special software which allows the recognition of characters written with magnetic ink.

How does this software work? It works in a rather unique way Text is written with a special magnetic ink And the scanner scans the letters and recognizes it by its magnetism It works similar to a cassette This is mainly used in banking systems For Example…..

So many counterfeit checks… Oh God, Why? You don’t need to worry about that The modern banks use Magnetic Ink to print their checks to battle counterfeit checks Modern Banks have a standard Font

Advantages and Disadvantages Ease of Readability and High Security. Small Deciphering Error Rate. Time Consuming Standards. Expensive Equipment.

Awesome! Does that mean we can use magnetic ink to also protect other important documents? Uh, not exactly The Magnetic ink is quite expensive So trying to make a document of it…. You will result in an empty wallet Why not use this software instead? The OCR Software HQ

Software Optica l Charact er Recognition I recognize you from somewhere OCR

What is an OCR Software though? The OCR Software is a software which converts an image file into a computer form of a file.

How does this software work? It’s actually quite simple It simply recognizes letters like we humans do A small example to explain better……

A The letter Of the image The software scans The computer system processing….. (It resembles an A) (Yes! If it resembles an A, it’s the letter A) The Computer System A

But wait, my handwriting isn’t that good That means it’s useless for me! A Actually, you don’t need to worry about that much Modern OCR Softwares have overcome this problem A Small representation of it…….

A Rather than looking for matching letters, It looks for certain similar features of the letter It has a horizontal line Which meets with 2 lines 2 lines which meet These are features resembling an A It’s an A The Computer System

Advantages and Disadvantages Cheaper than paying someone to entering large amounts of text. Much faster than someone manually entering the text. The latest software can recreate tables and original layouts. Not 100% accurate All documents need to be checked over carefully first and then manually corrected. If the original document is poor or has bad handwriting so further mistakes will occur.

OCR…..is just Wonderful! HQ
