The Meditation: PASTOR: Our evangelism efforts get bogged down in controversies, an endless wrangling over religious issues. PEOPLE: Jesus, you cut through all that. You awakened hunger in the woman at the well. You reached past all the religion and touched a deep need. PASTOR: Help us to get past arguing about religion, and touch the need deep inside of those around. PEOPLE: Help us to trust your presence. We don’t want to try to argue people into conversion. PASTOR: They need an awakening that comes only from the Holy Spirit. Only He can rouse the thirst in their heart. PEOPLE: Lead me to thirsty people. The Profile … The Bishnupuria are a 100% Hindu community. They are mostly farmers, though their younger generations are becoming increasingly more educated and looking for other opportunities. Missionary activity among them has been and is limited. Outsiders trying to spread the gospel are not tolerated, and individuals may resist the gospel for fear that they will lose their place society. Missionaries can easily gain access to the community by engaging them in the social, economic, and health sectors. Prayer … Pray that the Bishnupuria would respond positively to the gospel. They pride themselves on being 100% Hindu. Any attempts to convert them may mean an end to a relationship with them. Pray that Bishnupuria believers in India would be burdened for their Bishnupuria brothers and sisters in Bangladesh who do not know Jesus. Pray that the translation of the Bible in their language will be completed, which is in progress in India by Bibles International. Pray that they would be receptive to assistance and open to hearing the Gospel. Pray that the Hindu beliefs of the Bishnupuria would be broken and the truth of the Gospel would be revealed to them.
