The First Gift 1 Samuel 1:9-11, 17, 20 She asks for a gift from God with faith. She asks for a gift from God with faith. “I have asked for him from the Lord.” “I have asked for him from the Lord.” All life is a gift from God and should be treated as such. All life is a gift from God and should be treated as such. How does this change the way we look at others?

The Second Gift 1 Samuel 1:11, She promises a gift to God with faithfulness. She promises a gift to God with faithfulness. “I have lent him to the LORD. As long as he lives, he is lent to the LORD.” “I have lent him to the LORD. As long as he lives, he is lent to the LORD.” While Hannah keeps this vow dramatically, all parents have a gift of life to return to God. While Hannah keeps this vow dramatically, all parents have a gift of life to return to God. How do we keep the covenant of parenthood with God?

The Third Gift 1 Samuel 2:18-20, 26 She raised her child as a little gift, not as a little god. She raised her child as a little gift, not as a little god. “Now the young man Samuel continued to grow both in stature and in favor with the LORD and also with man.” “Now the young man Samuel continued to grow both in stature and in favor with the LORD and also with man.” Note that Eli prays for a further gift, but Hannah does not. Note that Eli prays for a further gift, but Hannah does not. Note that Eli fails to raise his sons as gifts to God (v. 12). Note that Eli fails to raise his sons as gifts to God (v. 12). How do we raise our children to know they are gifts from and to God, not gods themselves?
