He has published more than 200 publications and been authorized 25 patents, mainly related to th e following research topics: Nanostructured Functional Materials; Hybrid, Biohybrid, Intercalation C ompounds & Nanocomposites; Layered and Porous Inorganic Solids. His contribution is reflected by his international ranking by WOS (June 30th, 2015) with an H-index of 43. Also, Prof. Ruiz-Hitzky works as the Editor-in-Chief of Recent Patents in Nanotechnology and A ssociated Editor of Current Nanoscience (2010-). He has obtained several international awards includ ing the STAS Prize (Académie Royale des Sciences, des Lettres et des Beaux-Arts de Belgique, Belg ium), the BRUYLANTS award (Association des Chimistes de l’Université de Louvain, Belgium), th e ICIDCA award (The Ministry of Sugar, Cuba), the AIPEA Medal (Tokyo, 2005), the Guillaume Bu dé Medal (Collège de France, Paris 2011), the Josep Lleal Medal (Expoquimia, Barcelona 2011) and various distinctions at the CSIC. She graduated in Chemistry (1986) and obtained the Ph. D. degree at Complutense University of Madrid (1991), and then was a postdoctoral researcher at Colora do State University in She focuses on nanostructured functional materials such as inorganic-inorga nic heterostructured materials, as well as organic–inorganic and bio-inorganic hybrid materials, mainly b ased on silicates and clays, for diverse applications: adsorbents and catalysts, environmental remediation, controlled drug delivery, green bionanocomposites, electrochemical devices, etc. She is an author of over 150 publications including articles, book chapters, peer-review proceedings and monographs with 3,500 citations and an h index of 31, and is co-inventor of 12 patents. She is also Co-Editor-in-Chief of Recent Patents in Nanotechnology and member of the Editorial Board of Clay Minerals and Applied Clays Science journals. She has been honored in 1993 with the Accesit to the "W. F. Bradley Award" sponsored by the AIPEA, in 2007 & 2008 with various Awards of the University of La Habana and in 2008 with the Award of the National Academy of Sciences of Cuba, as well as the Distinction of the CSIC to its Personnel in 2007 & She is currently Head of the New Architectures in Materials Chemistry Department and Head of the “FE-SEM Laboratory” at the ICMM-CSIC.
