Academy for International Education – Is it for you?

Academy Objectives  Expose you to a broad overview of international education  Provide access to international education professionals and resources through coaches, training and networking  Prepare you to serve as an international education resource at your institution  Help you build a network of international education colleagues to aid your professional development

The Academy for International Education  Regionally supported 9-month program  Coach – trainee 1 to 5 ratio  Three training components  Spring Training (Atlanta - March 5-8, 2008)  NAFSA National Conference (Washington, DC – May 25-30, 2008)  Fall Regional Conference (October/November 2008)

The Academy for International Education Provides:  An Introduction to International Education  A Flexible curriculum to address your needs  Training to strengthen your ability to establish, expand, and lead international education programs and services  Lots of Networking - nationally, regionally “I appreciate the exposure to the broad range of international education and to the models of best practices that I have seen.” --Academy II graduate

Role of Coach What your coach will do:  Serve as a resource to group of trainees by  Responding to questions  Directing trainees to appropriate resources, other colleagues  Helping trainees “learn how to learn” in the NAFSA environment  Listen actively  Provide feedback  Provide guidance

Role of Trainee What can you do to get the most out of your Academy experience?  Participate fully and actively  Attend all Academy trainings and sessions  Use your peer group as resource  Ask your coach for feedback and guidance  Follow through
