 Using the map, what problem is presented by colonial claims in North America? DO NOW

 Colonial era diplomacy focused on two issues: 1.The European balance of power 2.The colonists’ seizure of land from Native Americans DIPLOMATIC STRUGGLES

 Rivalry between French and British in Europe  Influenced events in North American colonies  To increase political and economic power  British and French competed for better land and control over new trading opportunities  Colonial governments tried to coexist with Native Americans  Made alliances with some tribes while alienating others DIPLOMATIC STRUGGLES

 Ultimately, the British Government poured troops and resources into protecting its possessions in the Americas  taxed their colonists to pay for those resources  The taxes eventually became a rallying cry for the American independence movement DIPLOMATIC STRUGGLES
