A description of the spending and general financial plans of an individual It is a plan that shows what money you plan on spending. It can be a monthly or yearly plan for spending and saving. It is based on your income and costs.

Elements of Budgeting It can be a balancing act! PlanningSavingTracking Expenses Identifying Goals

You know what is going on (Personal budgeting allows you to know exactly how much money you have. ) Control (A budget is the key to enabling you to take charge of your finances.) Helps with Organization (A budget divides funds into categories of expenditures and savings.) Communication (It enables everyone to be involved in the process and helps to discuss the priorities for where your money should be spent) Take advantage of opportunities (allows you to take advantage of opportunities that you might otherwise miss ) Extra time (Having your information together saves time digging through old records during important times such as tax season) Extra money (will almost certainly produce extra money for you to do with as you wish; reduces unnecessary expenditures and helps identify ways you may be able to save)

Develop a system Review and balance your records on a regular basis Gather information/ financial records Get organized Understand where your money is going

You have to suffer to use a budget – budgets reduce headaches, not cause them! You have to be in debt to budget – not true; everyone benefits from planning and organizing finances. Budgeting takes up a lot of your time – once you get it in place, both stress and time in looking after your money is reduced

Who Knows What Could Happen?
