Every Monday Matters Love Yourself

Happy Month of Love! Let’s start the month off right! Love to me means inspiration. What does it mean to you? What inspires you? The message today is about choosing your attitude and how that attitude can shape your future.

The inventor Thomas Edison once said, “Our lives are not determined by what happens to us but by how we react to what happens, not by what life brings to us, but by the attitude we bring to life.... There are two types of people: those who fear failure so they never try, and those who fear failure so they never quit.

Abraham Lincoln, our 16 th president, faced great struggles with a divided country during the Civil War. But he had great determination and a never give up attitude. “Always bear in mind,” said the man responsible for ending slavery, “that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other.”

A positive attitude causes a chain reaction of positive thoughts, events, and outcomes. To use Edison’s words, it is a catalyst, a spark that creates extraordinary results. As your school counselor, I’m here to help you find your spark.

Write it down… One simple rule is to set specific small goals and write them down. What is it that you want to achieve this semester? Check out this plan for setting goals :

Goals Take a few minutes to write down a few goals for yourself.

Attitude and goals Your attitude and goals go hand in hand. You will never achieve your goals if you don’t believe in yourself. You must have a positive attitude and use positive self talk. It is vital in being successful!

Seriously… Take some time to write a love letter to yourself. You are the most important person you will ever know. What do you love about yourself? What great qualities do you have to offer the world? The more you put in to each task you are assigned, the more you will benefit from it!

Bring down your love letters to Mrs. Hernandez and hold onto your goals. Put them in a place that you will look back and focus on what you need to do to be successful. Make the most of every day and work hard. You can do this!
