Definition: WEB 2.0 The term "Web 2.0" (pronounced "Web two point oh") is commonly associated with web applications which facilitate interactive, user-centered design [1 information sharing, interoperability ] and collaboration on the World Wide Web. Examples of Web 2.0 include web-based communities, hosted services, web applications, social-networking sites, video-sharing sites, wikis, blogs, mashups and folksonomies. A Web 2.0 site allows its users to interact with other users or to change website content, in contrast to non-interactive websites where users are limited to the passive viewing of information that is provided to them.

The Workshop Seven Advisors volunteered to participate in a seven week workshop Online Web 2.0 workshop was available free on the UK website Syllabus was developed to guide workshop Advisors worked independently on weekly assignments Once a week meetings were held to go over technology, answer questions, share experiences (and product) and discuss applications in Advising.

Final Project Advisors chose to work with WIKIs for their final project. The goal was to create a WIKI that could be updated monthly and have a FAQ section that would address common questions. Only the HOME page would be modified monthly and duites would be shared by a committee (rather than an individual). Each month would have a theme, list important upcoming events and due dates.

DRAFT Communication Plan The A&S Communication Plan involves experimentation of new web-based products as they apply to improving and promoting academic advising at the college. The Advising Center will provide training for all advisors on web-based technology approved for use with students. Each new technology will be reviewed by advisors and recommendations will be made to supervisors on the effectiveness and efficiency of the technology within the advising model.

First Goal After review of several WEB 2.0 technologies, it is recommended that an WIKI be developed that would be a monthly forum for important events and news related to advising (an online newsletter). The WIKI would be updated monthly around a theme by a committee of Advisors. Included in the WIKI would be pages that would focus on common issues facing all students, links to the UK Webpage and RSS feeds when available.
