MAKE A PREDICTION Land Bandits Guerrilla Poor

The Mexican Revolution ( ) Division between rich and poor Of Mexico’s 15 million people, 10 million did not own land in Many armies of rebels and reformers Guerilla warfare

Francisco Madero Mexico’s president in A wealthy rancher Wanted free honest elections Overthrown and Murdered 1913

The Problem of Land Poor farmers wanted land of their own Wanted to break up giant haciendas and give each family a few acres. The land of the haciendas once belonged to the village farmers. A law passed in 1883 made it easy for rich ranch owners to take the land of villages to form haciendas.

Emiliano Zapata "I am determined to fight against anything and anyone with nothing more than the confidence and support of my people".

Who is Emiliano Zapata? Legendary fighter for farmers’ rights Motto: land and liberty Fought in the south of Mexico Murdered in 1919

People have long taken different sides on their evaluation of Emiliano Zapata and his followers. Some considered them bandits, but to others they were true revolutionaries who worked for the peasants

The End On April 10, 1919, Zapata was tricked into a meeting with one of Carranza's generals who wanted to "switch sides." The meeting was a trap, and Zapata was killed as he arrived at the meeting.
