Group1 Vector Control Challenges and OR needs

Challenges: Brainstorming challenges and categorized into 3 groups: 1.Strategic Information – Vector and Human 2.Tools 3.Human Resource

Challenges for vector control Strategic Information – Vector and Human Field efficacy tests of ITNs/LLINs/ insecticide treated clothes Availability of strategic information of vector data, e.g. density, species, bionomics, insecticide resistance Lack of country specific guidelines/SOPs for vector control among mobile populations in elimination settings

Tools Limited effective tools for outdoor transmission Effective tools to prevent transmission for specific risk groups, e.g. rubber plantation workers Applications of IRS in advanced control stage Deployment of IVM into community levels in elimination setting

Human Resource Limited (quantity and quality) trained human resources Ensuring long-term and sustainability of supportive environments for vector control (at all levels: central leadership to village)

Operational research Routine generation and triangulation of Strategic information (vectors and human behaviour) for operationalizing vector control and prevention activities for field level staff Assessment of preference and acceptability of preventive tools at community levels Effective models for IVM roll out in context of malaria elimination Effective preventive tools for specific risk groups (eg. Military, rubber tappers etc)
