Strategic Improvement Board Plan (June 2014) outlined at: “2.1.1 To design and agree a whole-organisational model and phased implementation plan for Children’s Services which will strengthen the child’s journey and is informed by improvement priorities.” Better together for children… Introduction

Better together for children… Key Strategic Priorities The redesign of Social Care and SEND Services was based upon the following principles: The need for fewer inbuilt changes of social workers for children thus improving the child’s journey Fewer management levels bringing the Assistant Director, the Director of Children’s Services and decision-making closer to children and families The need to provide a clear career pathway for social work staff The need to support and develop a learning environment for all staff The need to use our reducing resources as effectively as possible on behalf of children and families

Phase One – Redesign of Senior Management Structure This was completed with the deletion of the Heads of Service posts and creation of the Group Managers posts, which commenced on 1 st September 2014 Better together for children…

Phase Two – Creation of Practice Manager and Practice Development Coordinator Posts PM were to become the first-line managers of SW staff, previously Team Managers Deletion of Senior Practitioner posts 29 were in existence, 24 were held by permanent staff 9 were appointed to PM posts, 1 to PDC. Better together for children…

Developed in consultation with HRE and all management levels Participants are offered the opportunity to undertake MBTI and EI in order to inform development plan Programme is 10 months in duration, concluding with an assessment Linked with Annual Performance Review Recognised by ILM Better together for children… Programme
